What is osteoporosis?   Osteoporosis affects over a million Australians. A lot of these people don’t even know they have osteoporosis. That is why it is called the ‘silent disease’. It is a condition which makes bones brittle and become susceptible to fractures with minimal trauma. Bones become thin because they lose minerals like calcium.     Any bone can be affected by osteoporosis, but more common sites are the hip, spine and wrist.
