Peter Hay

MBBS, FRACGP
The Mall: Mon - Fri
Language: English, German, Hungarian, Italian, French, Spanish, Mandarin

I am one of the founding doctors at CHMC so have been around since Adam was a boy, may be even a baby…

Being a dinosaur has its advantages – have seen a lot – and that makes me very experienced.

I love general practice because it offers a rare insight into how people tick (or don’t) and at the same time have had both the pleasure and the honour to get to know my patients really well.

I find medicine a constant challenge and am always up for more. I have been involved in a lot of research, more recently in the cardiovascular space –
Specifically, hypertension, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. I was a co-author on a really interesting blood pressure study called QUARTET (look it up – was published in The Lancet no less 😊)

I have lots of other things that challenge me (family excluded). I have become proficient in 7 languages and consult in all of them English, Hungarian, Italian, French, Spanish, German and yes, Mandarin!

I do a lot of GP education and sit on a number of advisory boards and like to share my knowledge and experiences with up and coming GPs.

I like good food and wine but practice what I preach and do it in moderation. Don’t believe in being too serious and love a joke – laughter is the best medicine I reckon.

I have a love/hate relationship with technology too and enjoy expanding my horizons as long as it doesn’t include my waist.

I love my work and the patients at CHMC and wouldn’t work anywhere else if you paid me.
